This afternoon we were to go on a new drive when a stream was higher than expected and mud stopped us in our tracks. Instead we decided to revisit Fish Creek Cove and petroglyphs in Capital Reef.

The work in Fish Creek Cove contains both pictographs and petroglyphs. Some of the deer in the panel appear to be "headless". The technical term is acephalous. However, we believe that the pigment used to create the heads was of a different pigment and color than that used on the rest of the bodies, which has mostly washed away over time. There are vestiges of this pigment at various locations at the site.

We stopped by Capital Reef to visit one of our favorite sites but the lighting wasn't good. We took just a few pictures before calling it a day. We have taken extensive pictures of this site taken on previous trips that we invite you to review when time permits.
