Thirty miles of rough road from Sedona are two historic sites, Palatki & Honanki. Palatki (red rock house) was inhabited some 5000 years ago until AD1300. We had hoped to see the entire site at close range but discovered that the National Park Service had placed the main site off limits due to seismic instability. The pictures from that part of the site had to be taken with a telephoto lens. We spent most of our time enjoying the primitive rock art pictographs created with a variety of colored pigments in the part that we were allowed to walk through.

Honanki (Bear House) just a few miles South of Palatki is also a cliff dwelling that was more enjoyable to investigate. The ruins permitted up close observation that included a beautiful setting and some unique pictographs.
