We returned to the Capitol Reef Visitor’s Center to get directions to Image Cave in Spring Canyon and were told by the National Park Service Ranger that it was a class three site and they could not give us directions. We decided to revisit the remarkable Fremont panel in Fruta and then we hiked up the Fremont River south of the Visitors Center only to be turned back by a thunderstorm after getting a half mile up the trail.

We’ve been to Capitol Reef nearly a dozen times hoping for the perfect light necessary to capture the spirit of this majestic place. We spent a good part of the afternoon driving through this geographical marvel accompanied by scattered thunderstorms and dark overcast. We were fortunate that the rain let up just before sun down.
