Our October trip to see rock art, habitation sites and friends had us heading to Utah a month later than usual. As a consequence, our first day of travel provided us with a unique view of the route we frequently travel to Utah. A dry spring spared only a few small wetlands among the rice fields that we crossed on our way to Sacramento. The golden rolling foothills of the Sierra were a sharp contrast to the changing colors of the fall foliage as we headed over the Donner Pass on our way to Reno and then Fernley to see dear friends and Sharon’s sister.
