Our trips to Utah always begin by driving from Berkeley through Reno to Fernley where we see dear friends and family. As we drove east we noticed that housing developments between Berkeley and Sacramento were becoming more invasive and pressing closer to the freeways.

This year the recreated wetlands just northwest of Sacramento were a visual highlight. These wetlands now co-exist with rice farming. After climbing up into the Sierras, we had lunch along the Little Truckee River where we were adopted by chipmunks who just had to share. We arrived just in time for a great dinner with Jack and Geri Taylor, now famous for their giant pumpkin patch in the desert.
