One asked about the chicks. It all started when Mateo ordered a stuffed dog on line for $14.99. A month later with more allowance he went on line to order something else and found a 6-inch hen and a 6 inch roaster for only 4.99 each. So he got two instead of one with a chunk of change. Then one weekend he and I made a chicken coup from a box diorama. I thought it was going to be a country chicken coup but he wanted an urban chicken loft with a mini refrigerator and stove. Then he wanted a chicken theme for his swimming birthday party with four boys in his pod of kids. I cut out fancy silhouettes of a hen and roaster to make a hanging garland and the project morphed into a tray of paper chickens with wing pockets that held chicken jokes.
I also made chicken juggling or bean bags for the kids. For Thanksgiving this all morphed into paper turkeys with turkey jokes. This turned into a great after dinner activity of reading and trading jokes. Then I made a hundred chickens for worry chicken dolls with their companions as well as three small juggle or bean bag chick presents.
Malanna has been visiting for a week and I was including her in this project so she could have presents to give her family and friends that would not cost her money but time. Great idea of the gift of giving and us working on a project together, but unfortunately, she has been busy visiting so many friends here I have taken up the major chore of getting these all done before she leaves. Her major contribution was to write the instructions for the worry dolls. One was to get 12 worries a day with transferring the pins to the second doll and then no more worries allowed that day. This became a loooooooooong dialogue that most folks won't read and takes away a little from the original intent. But this was a collaboration so I am having to learn to bend and go with the flow. Also, in unwrapping one of the boxes and taking the chicks out of their stuffing of shredded paper I found they are hopelessly littered in paper stuffing debris. It takes a stiff tooth brush to remove the lint. So they look really yucky. So much effort for such poor results. I now know I am done with the 2021 CHICKEN THEME.
