We haven’t been back to Arches in more than five years primarily because it is over run with people that are compelled to travel in long convoys along the route through the Park. With three quarters of a million people now going through this National Park, nearly every scenic aspect has parking lots filled to capacity. This year we threw our prejudice aside in order to explore ‘Park Avenue’ in the early morning light. We enjoyed every minute of it - including the Raven that showed us the way back to the car.

Mill Creek runs through Moab and has its origin in the Abajo -La Sal Mountains that lie to the east. It is one of our favorite places to hike. During previous trips we have hiked various parts of the north and south forks. This year we returned to the north fork, in part, to see the rock art that is the same style as the glyphs in Shay Canyon. We had a great hike up the creek and discovered glyphs we had not found previously. We also encountered a few beaver ponds, trout, and forded a wonderfully cool creek during the heat of a September day.

A thunderstorm in the late afternoon sent us back our motel, flooding many streets. We were most impressed with the thunder that reverberated off the Canyon walls surrounding Moab.
