About a decade ago our guide and friend Vaughn Hadenfeldt (Far Out Adventures) took us into Road Canyon on Cedar Mesa to Fallen Roof Ruin. Since we were lodging at the Recapture Lodge, we spoke with Jim Hook to check out the weather and decided to revisit one of our favorite habitation sites. John led the way to the ruin somehow remembering the route up the ledges on the north side of the canyon into this exquisite site. We discovered it to still be in remarkably good condition that speaks to the ability of visitors to treat this site with respect. The ruin was named for part of the alcove’s ceiling that had naturally fallen down, missing the ruin and leaving a new ceiling surface with a beautiful color.
