The hike into this part of the Petrified Forest was rewarding. We discovered a number of glyphs, many of which had bold geometric patterns. The experts say these designs originated in the archaic period when hunter-gatherers traveled the southwest and shaman likely originated the designs. We found ‘geometric rain clouds’, ‘rainbows’, and a ‘kachina (spirit beings) rain mask’ among the glyphs that were probably done in the 950 A.D. – 1,100 A.D. period.
