We succeeded in misinterpreting the directions and hiked into the wrong canyon. It didn’t take long to figure out that we had to hike up and over the ridge to the North and then drop into the next canyon. In the heart of that canyon is a unique alcove that shelters the ruin. The upper ruin is probably only visited by those who have serious climbing experience. The lower ruin is easily accessible and very fragile, and has some remarkable handprints. On the way down the canyon from the ruin we came across the remains of a sweat lodge and some interesting pottery chards.

It was a pleasure to hike with him this day to sites on Cedar Mesa. The first part of our excursion was into Road Canyon. As we hiked toward the Citadel, Vaughn found a small site in a side canyon that was in remarkable condition because of shelter the mesa above it and how well it was constructed.

The Citadel is situated on the very end of an isolated peninsula that extends out into Road Canyon. To get there we had to work our way down from the top of the mesa and traverse across a very narrow ridge. We then climbed over the remnants of several rock walls most likely built to defend the Citadel. The defensive nature of this site is most impressive. It embodies the concept of impregnable.

That afternoon we hiked into another part of Cedar Mesa to visit some granaries that are in a side canyon that merges into Johns Canyon. Here rests some outstanding granaries that once stored seeds and food. These structures are in remarkable condition and all the granary doors are in tack. With very few exceptions the granaries we come across usually have their stone doors missing or broken.

We decided to revisit the remarkable Fremont panel in Fruta and then we hiked up the Fremont River south of the Visitors Center only to be turned back by a thunderstorm after getting a half mile up the trail.

We’ve been to Capitol Reef nearly a dozen times hoping for the perfect light necessary to capture the spirit of this majestic place. Our itinerary on this travel day called for a major hike into South Cottonwood Canyon to find Tower House Ruin. Heading East from Capitol Reef took us through some very stark, hauntingly beautiful moonscape terrain.

From there we made our way south to the confluence of the Colorado River with Lake Powell. Late in the afternoon we found South Cottonwood Canyon. After several attempts to find Tower House Ruin based on what we thought were accurate directions, we succeeded in finding this very unique ruin. Marlo lived down stairs for 9 months and redecorated it. When she moved out I turned it back into the Bali theme but with a few items of her decor in addition to some of mine including new pillows and a rug.
The rest are images of the room and its few changes over the years, mainly in editing the art work and new carpet for the sisal rug was showing a little wear from renters.

First time they stayed a full week and it was such a pleasure having more time to spend together and not pack every thing into a quick weekend whirl. The highlight of the week was going to the City to have our own private tour in the Heath Ceramic building led by Tiffany. We enjoyed seeing the graffiti and colorful little vignettes of the neighborhood in the Mission Districk. We shopped in the retail store within the building and vistied many small artist studios.

The Boiler Room Gallery was showing 'Out Siders Art' from Alabama and the quilts and drawings were wonderful. We then walked a block to a new Thai resturant and had a very colorful meal incluing blue rice.

The evening before Mel and the gals left we had a little spa retreat and scared and laughed our selves silly.

Marlo made a bed blanket, Two bird stuffed pillows, and three pillow cases for future pillow inserts. She also on her very own made a little apron, this time with the pockets sewn right side up, and a very creative tote bag-purse with a little stuffed bird. All so adorable!

Montan took a much more hansome approach to her selection of sewing projects. She made three pillow cases in grey tones for what she hopes will accent a future grey room. She made four place mats, and four embroiidered napkins which we are waiting for her to photograph and share.

It seems so unfair to us that her coach is so callus as to everyone's feeling. He saw us come down and greet her before the game, and I personally think he could have made a game effort to put her in a little longer than he did. The good side is that her team won. And we had a great 40 minute visit with her on the tail gate of our cars in the parking lot before her team had to get back on the bus and make the long trip home. Todd loaded her up with a container of his home made Gumbo, and we sent her off with a bag of four boxes of different girl scout cookies to eat and share.
We think we had an absolutely wonderful visit with Malanna even though it was short. We had only 40 minutes so we did not go and try to find ice cream or a treat off campus and eat up all our time traveling and ordering food and stressing out getting back in time. In stead we had a great tail gate visit and it truly felt like the best visit we have had in years. All devices were off, no phones, texting, cooking to attend to (I am guilty of this) or other time schedules of some to adjust to. Just simply one of those rare times when everyone was attentive and there. That is with the exception of Tatra, Maurice and Mateo that had a previous engagement they could not break. We went home glowing over the visit, and I hope Malanna felt our love also.

This year is our home's 100 year anniversary. And I finally got the kitchen I have dreamed about for ever, but better. Dugan absolutely out did himself in creating a banquet of drawers, each I designed and he customized for my needs.
I got the honed marble I have always loved which is mat finished and has the same luminosity of amber and soap stone. We finally got a dishwasher, garbage disposal and new trash containers built in that are going to make kitchen duties much easier. And we went from two extension cords and one double socket for electrical needs to 8 sockets/ real electrical outlets.
